Notes

New Site Name

The name of the site has been slightly changed, from "Catholics in Recovery" to "Catholic Recovery". It matches the website address, and also reflects more of emphasis on what we're doing here. It isn't about us, it's about the Faith and how it helps us.

my sins with addiction..

im trying to come clean with hoiw badly my addictions hurt me. i am ready to admit when i couldnt afford cocaine, i would sleep for the drug or money for the drug. right before i walked away from it, i was raped at gunpoint by my dealer because i would not work as a prostitute for him. i was tipped with a gram for being a good sport. i still fear going into certain parts of town, afraid i will run into someone who knew me as i was while deep in addiction. i thought it was over, but then alcohol… Continue

Meditations on Luke

I have been reading the Gospel of Luke. Tonight I meditated on Chapter 4 and 5. In chapter four people come out to John the Baptists and he berates then and calls them a brood of vipers and tells them that they should not rely on being sons of Abraham for out of the stones God can raise up sons of Abraham. The people become frightened and ask what should they do to live well.

In the next chapter Jesus works many miracles and his fame is spread abroad. He goes to the synagogue in Nazareth and re… Continue

damage is done..

im realizing how much my addictions have hurt me physically. a combination of cocaine and anorexia gave me a heart attack at age 20. the alcohol binges created bleeding ulcers that i now have to take medication to repair. and still, while i type this from my phone because i dont have internet, i am craving a drink so i can erase the pain and anxiety going on inside me. this time instead of picking up a glass, im going to pick up my bible and seek strength through the holy spirit, to fix my holey… Continue

Four Pillars of Recovery

I have been reflecting for awhile on the "essential ingredients" of any recovery plan... whether it is AA or the Oxford Movement or the millions of models of interventions that are out there that are used by the so-called "treatment experts"... I have come up with four essentials....
Surrender, Accountability, Community and Service.

Acknowledging the need for and value of surrender in the battle with an addiction is key because otherwise we are dealing in deception with ourselves. That d… Continue

Serenity in Season

I have just endured the most brutal month of my life after getting sober 20 years ago.
I was tempted to drink for the first time in about 18 years... but God's grace has prevailed
for today... His mercy poured down like rain. Going back to the beginning and realizing
that my life as I know it now is not possible without sobriety. A drink would bring about a tsunami
or pain and wipe away every foundation, every gift and every joy in the blink of an eye.
This I know. This is what helps me in times… Continue

Welcome to Catholic Recovery

Catholic? Are you suffering from an addiction, or trying to maintain your recovery? Then you've come to the right place!! Welcome to the social network where you can find other Catholics who are alcoholics or addicts and are discovering what the Catholic Faith has to offer in assisting them in staying clean and sober. The only requirement for membership is a desire to grow in the Catholic Faith, and to stay clean and sober! Share with other members in the forums, post events you are creating or attending, or upload photos and videos that others here might like! This social network is NOT affiliated with ANY recovery movement. Doesn't matter what other recovery program you've used (or still use, or even if you've ever used one), all Catholics faithful to the Church or who desire to be faithful but are finding it difficult are welcome. No criticism of other member's recovery programs (or lack of) will be permitted. Charitable, sensitive opinions offered are acceptable. Bring your experience in recovery to the forums and in messages, but be tolerant of different approaches. As long as they work, it's cool. This site is NOT a substitute for therapy or medical help. All advice and suggestions are based on one's personal experience, and may not be suitable for all. If you have mental or medical complications due to your addiction, please see qualified personnel.
